What is PRF and what can it treat?
PRF stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. We often hear about PRP which is very similar but not as effective. PRF is a combination of your own stem cells and platelets used to stimulate collagen and tissue growth. Collagen is what gives our skin it’s plump and volume. As we age we produce less collagen and our skin begins to sag while wrinkles become more permanent.
What can it treat?
- Dark under eye circles
- Sagging skin
- Wrinkles
- Scars
- Enlarged pores
- Dry skin
- Pigmentation
- It can prolong the life of your filler
- Stimulate scalp and brow hair
PRF can be injected under the skin for for tissue growth or MICROneedled into the skin for resurfacing and all over skin correction.
At RALEIGH plastic Surgery we use the only FDA approved MICROneedling device, the Skin Pen. This by itself yields better results than other skin pens on the market.
What is the treatment like?
First a small amount of your blood is drawn. Then is it spun down to a gold serum. After that it will be MICROneedled into the skin and injected where desired.
What is the downtime?
You will be red for the first day and pink the next. You should not expose your skin to the sun for one week. Avoiding exercise is encouraged for the first 24 hours. A bruise is possible when injecting PRF under the skin.
