Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction surgery is intended for women who have undergone a mastectomy due to cancer or any other reason. Although breast reconstruction can rebuild your breast, the results are highly variable:
- A reconstructed breast will not have the same sensation and feel as the breast it replaces.
- Visible incision lines will always be present on the breast, whetzher from reconstruction or mastectomy.
- Certain surgical techniques will leave incision lines at the donor site, commonly located in less exposed areas of the body such as the back, abdomen or buttocks.
The Procedure
The techniques for breast reconstruction surgery will vary depending on each patient’s individual needs. A breast reconstruction may involve any of the following procedures: Breast Lift or Breast Implants.
In general, surgery is performed beginning with incisions placed under the breast or around the areola. The doctors can then place the implants under the tissue any possibly lift the underlying muscles.
