CoolSculpting is the only FDA-cleared* non-invasive fat-reduction therapy that utilizes controlled cooling to reduce stubborn fat that may be resistant to diet and exercise. The results are observable and measurable. CoolSculpting® is FDA-cleared for the treatment of noticeable fat bulges in the submental (under the chin) and submandibular (under the jawline) areas, as well as the thigh, belly, and flank, as well as bra fat, back fat, buttock fat (also known as banana roll) fat, and upper arm. Additionally, it is FDA-cleared for use in submental region treatments to improve the appearance of loose tissue. CoolSculpting® is not a weight-loss surgery.
With over 10 million treatments performed worldwide, there is no shortage of CoolSculpting testimonies and reviews online.
Is CoolSculpting Right for Me?
Do you have stubborn fat that refuses to go away regardless of how much exercise you do? This is where CoolSculpting comes into play. It’s critical to note that CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss procedure, but rather a method for assisting in the reduction of annoying, undesirable fat. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that requires little to no downtime following treatment. Because the operation – which is performed in a physician’s office – can reduce fat in targeted areas by up to 20% – 25%, it can assist patients in achieving their body contouring goals. CoolSculpting® is not right for everyone. If you have cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin illness, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria, you should not have the CoolSculpting® procedure.
How Is CoolSculpting Performed?
One of the most frequently requested inquiries of physicians is, “How does CoolSculpting work?” The CoolSculpting procedure is based on a technique known as cryolipolysis. The fat cells in the treated area crystallize (freeze) to the point of injury and death — a process known as apoptosis, or programmed cell death. Your body naturally consumes fat and removes dead cells over time.
A massage is performed following a CoolSculpting treatment to mobilize the fat that has been liberated from the damaged fat cells.
How Many Areas Can CoolSculpting Treat?
CoolSculpting is FDA-approved for nine treatment areas: the belly, flanks, submental area (below the chin), submandibular area (below the jawline), bra fat, back fat, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, and buttocks. Multiple areas can even be treated on the same day.
What Happens If I Require Multiple Treatments in the Same Area?
Most CoolSculpting practitioners wait around one to three months before re-treating an area. Consult your provider to evaluate whether re-treating the region will help you achieve your body contouring goals.
What Is the Initial Step Toward Treatment?
Assessment is the initial stage in the therapy procedure. The doctor and/or CoolSculpting specialist will review your medical history and do a thorough examination to determine if you are a candidate for CoolSculpting. Other factors affecting the patient’s shape or figure are also determined during the assessment.
It is critical that the fat is subcutaneous – easily grasped or pulled. At the conclusion of the examination, the medical team and the patient agree on a treatment plan that will assist the patient in achieving their particular body sculpting goals.
How Does the CoolSculpting Procedure Feel?
After appropriately marking your treatment area(s) and prepping the skin in that area, the CoolSculpting procedure can begin.
To begin, the treatment region is protected with a protective gel. The applicator is then used to apply the solution to the skin, and treatments can take as little as 35 minutes. The patient is kept as comfortable as possible throughout this process.
The patient frequently experiences a cold sensation during the first three minutes. During minutes 3-5, the patient may experience a little tingling sensation similar to that experienced when a hand is placed in an ice chest.
Following this stage, the area will remain numb for the duration of the procedure and for several minutes afterwards. You may feel pulling, tugging, slight pinching, extreme cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping at the treatment site throughout the operation. As the area becomes numb, these sensations fade. You may even bring a book or a computer with you to keep you company during the treatment!
How Long Will I Have to Wait to See Results?
Numerous people report seeing effects as early as one to three months after treatment. The results of CoolSculpting are seen over a few months, as the process of cell death is not quick! Fat cell loss occurs gradually—but once fat cells are eliminated, they will not regenerate.
Are There Any Post-Treatment Side Effects?
Following the procedure, typical side effects include temporary redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, or skin sensitivity, and sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after submental or submandibular area treatment. Additionally, rare adverse consequences may occur. CoolSculpting® may result in a noticeable enlargement of the treated area two to five months following treatment. This enlargement requires surgical correction. Additional critical safety information is included below.
